Once a year, Blog Action Day unites bloggers, podcasters and videocasters worldwide to post about the same issue on the same day. A U.N. backed nonprofit event, Blog Action Day aims to raise awareness and encourage discussions of issues of global concern.
Last year (2007), Blog Action Day successfully united more than 15,800 bloggers to step-away from their usual routine blog topic and write about the Environment. The event has generated buzz both from online and traditional media (Digg, Reddit, BBC, Reuters, Manila Standard etc.), and successfully brought environmental issues and concerns to the attention of the world.
This year (2008), Blog Action Day is inviting all publishers to unite once again. This time, to post about “Poverty”.

Poverty is the world’s leading social and economic problem and finding a solution to it is difficult. But with thousands of voices coming together to discuss about it, an extraordinary lens through which to view the issue is created. The varieties of views and perspectives, as a result of this event, could provide a solution to alleviate if not end poverty.
