Drive More Traffic To Your Blog With Popular Searches

by TheWeblogZone on October 18, 2008

most popular searches

While blogging, I’ve noticed that whenever I publish a post containing popular search term on the web, I get a spike in my blog traffic. For instance, when I made a post on link building, pinay sex video and pinay sex scandal; my blog traffic increased by up to 40%. I also noticed that most of the spike in traffic are coming from Google Blog Search. What do these experiences tell us?

Well, it simply tells us to blog about popular searches on the web if we want to drive more traffic to our blogs. I’ve tried writing about relevant popular searches on my blog this week and so far, it has been a rewarding experience. My blog received traffic from Google Blog Search and websites with search engines like Delicious, DiggTechnorati and Reddit.

Find Out The Most Popular Searches

To start making posts about the most popular searches online, you need to know what they are. These online free services will give you an idea about the most popular searches made online.

  • Google Trends - The daily top 10 most popular searches online is located just below the search bar. You can also check a longer list of the hottest searches when you click on the “More Hot Trends”.
  • Google Insight For Search - This handy tool lets you know the most searched term with Google. It also lets you to check the searches made for each country and its sub-regions. You can even set the time frame (last 5 years to present, each year for the past 5 years, past 12 months, past 90 days, past 30 days and past 7 days).
  • Google Top 100 - This is where Google lists the top 100 most popular searches made using Google Search Engine in a day. You can use this tool to check the top 100 most popular queries today and for the past days of the current month.
  • AOL Hot Searches - If you want to know the most popular searches with other search engines like AOL, visit AOL’s hot searches. The most popular searches can be found at the sidebar of the website.
  • Dogpile Search Spy - This tool gives you a real time view of the keywords being searched online. Although it doesn’t give you the most popular searches, the information can give you an idea of what other people are interested about.

There are more free tools available online but the ones above are the most reliable and most popular. Try playing around with these tools to find out search terms relevant to your blog and start making posts about them.

When You’re Done Looking For Popular Search Terms

When you’re done collecting relevant popular search terms, you can start making posts about them. And to improve your chances of driving more traffic to your blog, here are more pointers to remember.

  1. Make Sure You Ping Google Blog Search - After you publish a post, Ping Google Blog Search to increase your chances of being indexed, hence, increasing the traffic you can get from Google Blog Search. If you are using Wordpress, you can also set your blog to automatically ping Google Blog Search whenever you publish new posts.
  2. Register An Account With Digg, Delicious, Technorati and Reddit - These websites have search engines that allow their users to search their database. If you like to drive more traffic to your blog, make sure you have an account with them so you can submit or bookmark your posts in case your readers missed to do it. Make bookmarking your posts easier for your readers by installing bookmarks buttons at the end of each of your post.
  3. Use Tags Or Labels - Whe you submit or bookmark your posts, some bookmarking sites require you to tag your submission. Take advantage of this feature by using appropriate tags. You can use your post’s most popularly searched keywords.

The traffic you get from writing about the most popular search terms is temporary not unless you continue to optimize them for search engines. It is temporary because Google Blog Search and websites like Digg, Delicious, Reddit and Technorati show the latest submissions in their database. As more blog posts are submitted similar to yours, your post gets burried. To ensure a high position in search engine result pages, you need to optimize your blog for search engines, and this takes time.

Happy blogging everyone! As always, your comments and suggestions are most welcome. :)
