Drive More Traffic To Your Blog With Update Services

by TheWeblogZone on September 7, 2008

Update Services are free tools you can use to inform other people that you have updated your blog. Using these services, you will be able to drive more traffic to your blog.

sound wave

Every time you publish a post, Wordpress authomatically notifies popular Update Services that you have updated your blog by sending an XML-RPC ping. When Update Services receive the ping, they start updating their proprietary indices to include your updates. People browsing sites like IceRocket, Syndic8, Technorati or Sphere will then find your latest posts. If they find your post interesting, they will click on it resulting to more visits to your blog.

Setting Up Your Update Services

  • From your dashboard, go to SETTING. Then click on the next tab called WRITING.
  • Scroll down to Update Services then replace http://rpc.pingomatic.com/ with the following:

  • Save the changes.
  • When you’re done saving, install the No-Ping-Wait Wordpress Plugin. This plugin will save bloggers from having to wait for all of the update services to respond to the new post pings.
  • I also recommend that you install Max Blog Press Ping Optimizer. This Wordpress plugin will prevent your blog from unnecessary pings every time you make changes to your blog. (i.e. when you edit your posts) In essence, the MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer prevent your blog from getting tagged as ping spammer.

After you implemented this tip, do come back to share your experiences. Thank you for your time. :)

The ‘dashboard update settings’ is one of the first thing that a blogger should do before actually getting to write articles. I’ve always done this, since the last 2times I changed host. And I think I will do it a 3rd soon :P

It really does have a positive impact while pinging those services (since it’s automated, we can just sit back and relax).

    Cheers!

    Thanks

I am fairly new to blogging and I am still learning about the tricks of getting your blog visible to people.

It sure is a comprehensive list of updates and I found it very useful.
