Facebook Disabled My Account

Why Was My FaceBook Account Disabled?

In search for answers, I clicked on the FAQ link provided by FaceBook and here's what I've found out.

Your account was disabled because you violated Facebooks Terms of Use, to which you agreed when you first registered for an account on the site. Accounts can either be disabled for repeat offenses or for one, particularly egregious violation. I've read the Terms of Use of FaceBook before I registered for an account and after reading it for the 2nd time, I'm pretty sure I did not violate any of them.

Facebook does not allow users to register with fake names, to impersonate any person or entity, or to falsely state or otherwise misrepresent themselves or their affiliations. I used RJ instead of Rocky John as my first name, does it count as fake? All my FaceBook friends know that I never impersonated or falsely represented any person or entity.

We do not allow users to send unsolicited or harassing messages to people they dont know, and we remove posts that advertise a product, service, website, or opportunity. Any blogger in their right mind will tell you that spamming isn't really a good strategy. I don't spam but I do promote my blog posts on my wall, which apparently is an accepted practice among FaceBookers. Some of the posts I promote on my wall contain advertisements and affiliate links. I don't think my account should be disabled because of this. Otherwise, a huge number of FaceBook accounts should have been disabled by now.

Our Code of Conduct outlines the types of content we do not allow on the site. This includes any obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit photos, as well as any photos that depict graphic violence. We also remove content, photo or written, that threatens, intimidates, harasses, or brings unwanted attention or embarrassment to an individual or group of people. I checked FaceBook's Code of Conduct and so far, the closest I get to ever violating it was posting a half-naked pic of myself. Anyone who saw my pic will tell you that it didn't depict violence, obscenity or pornography!

Before My FaceBook Got Disabled

Before my FaceBook was disabled, I notified my Bloggers and Blogging Group at BlogCatalog (3,000+ members) to follow me on Twitter and FaceBook. I don't think this is in any violation to FaceBook's Terms of Use.

Last night when I logged in to my FaceBook account at about 20:00, I received over 25 friend requests, which I then approved. The next thing I remember is my account being disabled with no warning whatsoever from FaceBook. With no freakin idea why my FaceBook account was disabled, I did the last resort, contact FaceBook.

FaceBook Account Disabled By Mistake

Here's what FaceBook says if you think your account was disabled by mistake:

If none of the above are applicable, and you think your account was mistakenly disabled, please contact us disabled[at]facebook[dot]com. Make sure to write from the login email address associated with your disabled account and to include a brief description of your issue.

If you were using your disabled profile to represent a business, band, or other organization, please fill out this form. If you were maintaining a Facebook Page on your account, please include that URL as well.

I just sent an email to the FaceBook team. Hopefully they'll get back to me soon but considering the huge number of requests they get everyday, I doubt they'll reply anytime soon. Some bloggers who've been to the same experience are still waiting for FaceBook's reply weeks after they've made contact.

As I've repeatedly pointed out here at TheWeblogZone, networking is a must for every blogger who wants to suceed and social media like FaceBook and Twitter make this possible. That's why I feel less like a blogger with my FaceBook account disabled.

After what happened with my FaceBook account, I still think that FaceBook is an incredible useful tool for bloggers. If they could fix the glitches on their scripts and system, they would be so much better. I'm hopeful that FaceBook will restore my FaceBook account after reviewing my account. But right now, all I can do is wait for their reply and hope for the best.

Anyone who have had the same experience with FaceBook? What measures did you take to restore your FaceBook account? Do share them on the comment.

Thank you for your time. Have a great day!
