It is hard to imagine the time when people managed to drive loads of traffic to their websites and blogs before the popularity of networking started increasing. It used to involve heavy investments, as one had to pay for advertising.

Networking is a must in the blogosphere, and although a bit time consuming, it’s free of cost and highly effective as well.
Instead of squandering money in advertising, one can network their blogs with fellow bloggers, and hence build a strong networking platform that would help in arousing the interest of the visitors, and thus, earn more as a result. The only costs that one would incur are for the internet connection, hosting and domain names!
Mostly, these networks have a commercial characteristic attributed with their existence. There are others as well, which aim at promotion of other blogs and other such social networks.
These networks vary with one another in the types of niches they focus upon, and their sizes. One can see many networks with a huge number of blogs, a wide range of topics, as well as networks strictly associated with a specific niche and related content.
It is observed that most bloggers have a hard time in the aspects that go beyond writing – these include SEO optimization, design of a Blog, finding advertisers, choice of a Blog platform, promotion of the blogs, and other such behind-the-scenes aspects. All in all, it’s too much to ask from an individual and it’s a wise decision to leave it to professionals who have vast experience in the field.

Networking is the key to building a successful blog! It also makes it fun along the way too!
I think some bloggers are uncomfortable networking because that may not be their motive. Maybe their main goal is that of a salesman, get the money and run. Or they may be lacking in social skills and blogging allows them to hide behind their fears.
