While traffic is the lifeblood of every website, links are the roads that help traffic reach its destination. The more and wider your road, the more traffic you receive. And obviously, places with more roads leading to them are more popular and frequently visited. Roads too, pave way for development and progress.

Just like roads, links are important to the success of every blog. It’s an indication of your blog’s importance and value in the Blogosphere. So… the more links to your blog, the better. To help you with links, here are some link building strategies that I’ve been using.
- Write useful and practical tips and share them to your friends.
- Network with bloggers and webmasters. Add them to your friendlist.
- Submit your blog to free directories. This old link building technique still works.
- Be the first to write about a news then inform your friends (bloggers, webmasters and journalists) about it. This link building technique can increase your inbound links quick.
- Submit your blog to dofollow social media. This link building method will requires you register an account to these dofollow social media. It should be worth your time.
- Submit articles to article directories. Use the author’s box to link to your blog or link to your blog from the articles you contribute.
- Leave your comment on dollow blogs or blogs using the CommentLuv plugin. Do not spam or you’ll waste your time. Try to contribute something in the discussion. (FYI – My blog uses the CommenLuv plugin.)
- Bookmark your posts with dofollow bookmarking sites. Again, this link building strategy requires you to register an account.
- Answers questions related to your blog (Yahoo Answers and Google Groups). Offer your posts as explanations and don’t forget to link to them.
- Build link by becoming a guest blogger. Choose blogs relevant to yours and link to your blog from your guest post.
- Join and participate in bloggers’ forums. Use your signature to build mor links to your blog.
- Start a blogging contest. Ask participants to link to your blog and use contest blogs to promote your contest.
- Join blog contests and blog events like BlogCatalog Bloggers Unite and Blog Action Day.
- Link to other blog and enjoy the benefits of link loving.
- Exchange links with other bloggers or webmasters. A three way link building is better.
- If you’re life, blog or business is “Wikipedia Worthy”, create a page about it at Wikipedia.
- Create multiple free blogs then link to your official blog. Don’t use your free blogs for the sole purpose of link building. Publish useful and unique contents on them.
- Issue press releases and submit them to pr sites. This is a very powerful link building strategy especially if your press release is controversial and timely.
- Be a top commentator. Leave your comments on blogs using the top commentator plugin. This link building strategy is time consuming but has been proven to boost your Google PR dramatically.
- Call the attention of bloggers and webmasters (email, telephone or chat). Tell them about your blog, product or new post. Just make sure you don’t irritate them with spam messages.
- Build links using Squidoo lenses. Use your lenses to link to your blog.
- Participating in blog memes is another effective link building strategy but sometimes time consuming.
- Posting classified ads to sites like Craiglist is an easy link building strategy but the links last for 45 days the most.
- Create free templates and themes and distribute them for free. Use the attribution to link to your blog. Most designers and web developers have been successful in using this link building strategy to gain more links to their blog.
- Simply updating your blog regulary is another effective link building technique. Your family, avid fans and readers will most likely link to your new post.
I guess that’s it for today. I should come up with another list of link building strategies when I come across new methods. Meanwhile, if you know of some really effective link building methods, do share them in the comment. I just want to remind you that I’m using CommentLuv plugin. Get some link love by simply leaving your thoughts and opinions about this post.
Thank you for your time.

CommentLuv is a Wordpress plugin that publishes the latest post of a commenter just after his/her comment. If you look at the bottom of your comment, you’ll find that there’s a link to your latest post. That’s comment love in action.
Firstly a great post, Links are like veins and traffic is like lifeblood for a website.
I would like to add one thing, there is one more way of link building which is gaining popularity, i.e Contextual Linking.
Where one gets a back link from a page which has related contents same as that of the linked site. Link from a quality content rich page helps in getting more importance from Google and boosts search engine ranking.
thanks again
