10 Reasons Why No One Reads Your Blog

by TheWeblogZone on October 24, 2008

Have you ever wondered why your posts don’t get comments or why you don’t receive feedbacks and suggestions from your readers? Maybe, your readers are lazy or worse, your blog doesn’t have readers!

skeptical, sceptical, skeptic, sceptic

What could be the reasons why no one reads your blog? Check out my list and find out potential reasons why no one spend the time to read your posts.

1. Your Blog Downloads Like Forever.

Get a better blog host if your blog needs forever to download. People online are impatient and don’t have the luxury of time to wait for your blog to upload. Naturally, how would people read your posts if they close their windows even before they have the chance to see what’s on your blog.

2. Your Blog Has The Same Old Content.

Will you read an article saying the same thing you’ve already read somewhere else? Or will you take the time to read a post copied from other blogs or simply taken from free article directories? You will not only avoid reading the blog but you’ll also refrain from visiting it again.

3. Your Post Titles Suck!

Titles are the first part noticed in a post. Without a catchy title, your visitors could end up not reading your entire post. Your titles should be crafted carefully and strategically to get your readers attention and encourage them to read what you have to say.

4. Your Post’s Introduction Failed To Hook Your Readers.

Catchy and well-crafted titles alone are not enough to get your visitors read through your posts. You need to give them more reasons to continue reading and your post’s introduction is where you should do this. Hook your readers into reading some more by arousing their interest in your introduction.

5. Your Posts Are Too Long.

64% of people online are turned-off or discouraged by very long posts. As I said earlier, people online are busy people and they don’t have all the time in the world. By writing a 5,000 word in a single post, you’re only increasing your chances of getting ignored by your visitors. If you want to write term papers, your blog is not an ideal place to do so. Try keeping your posts to 250 to 1,000 words per post.

6. Your Posts Are Boring.

If your topic is not-so-interesting and you compliment it with a boring write-up, you’ve just given more reasons your visitors not to read your blog posts. Try to give life to your post by setting the tone of your posts into conversational. Create your posts like you are talking to your readers. And use videos and graphics or images to add more life to it.

7. Your Posts Can’t Be Understood.

If I don’t understand what you’re saying on your post, I won’t continue reading it. This could be due to the nature of your topic or because your writing skills suck. When you write a post, your objective is to send a message across. If no one gets the message because they can’t understand what you’re saying, you failed. To avoid this, try writing in the language you are most well-versed with. Or if you still want to use your second language, it will be helpful if you take some formal lessons on it.

8. Your Blog Don’t Have Visitors.

It’s either your blog sucks or no one really visits your blog, in which case, no one will read your posts and leave comments on them. To get people to read your blog, you should get them first to visit it. You can do this through search engine optimization, networking, among others.

9. You’re Driving The Wrong People To Your Blog.

Let’s say you are able to get people to check your blog, but these people don’t give a shit about what you’re blogging about, do you think they’ll read your posts? Obviously not! Now to get your blog some real readers, drive people to your blog whom you think will be interested on your blog topic.

10. It’s Been Ages Since Your Last Update.

No one reads your blog because they’ve already read your posts or your posts date back to the early days of blogging. Some might be obsolete already. Try updating your blog more often with fresher content and you’ll notice an increase in your traffic from search engines and a boost in the comment you receive from your visitors… readers! :)

So, why do you think no one reads your blog? Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comment.

Thank you for your time. :)

Yes I do many of the things you say. My problem is traffic and I need to learn. I am a student of Blog Mastermind - Yaro Starek. It’s an expensive course relative to some others but there are good member resources video, audio, forums as well as mentoring. Yaro often answers questions himself - his other mentors are really excellent. I just cannot wait until the next lesson!
Yaro’s e-book is amazing in its content. Even if you are not interested in his course the e-book is chock full of good blogging tips. Well worth a no obligation download. Here is the link:
    http://www.blogmastermind.com/affiliates/index.php?af=860558
Yes it is an affiliate link. I get paid if you eventually sign up but hey that’s business. To tell you the truth I would recommend it highly even if I did not get paid. I save accolades for people who deserve it. Yaro addresses the points in this article and provides some good solutions.
I also am taking some writing courses on the internet.
Take a look at http://ezinearticles.com - a good resource ( I am not an affiliate). There are a lot of good sources on writing and if you get good at it you can make it a (small) source of income. I am just a newbie at this internet stuff. Good for a semi retired person like me.

If you want to write long winded posts use a plugin like in series which makes it easy for you to breakup a post into smaller bits. Long posts have their place for reference pieces, but even then most of the time they should be broken into multiple pages.

I suffered from the update situation for a bit. Just started writing again and I’ve really enjoyed it. Been adding some extra fun blogs too when I get distracted. Good post and suggestions here.

Forgot to mention that I agree on number 7 as well. I’ve been to some blogs that are extremely difficult to navigate around as well as the content does not seem to make much sense. Some of these bloggers are really sweet too. It’s a shame they weren’t a bit more organized.

hmmm… I’d have to add that I HATE when I go to a blog because of a catchy title and find that the title is either not relevant or semi-relevant and was the best part of the read. That’s a good way to get me to stop reading a blog. I’m not having problems generating traffic for mine, but I don’t get a lot of comments, even from my loyal readers. For some reason, more people email me… perhaps its because my niche like anonymity???

I agree with most of points on this post. What about the design and layout of a blog. I believe the visuals are quite important to a visitor too. It’s like creating a nice environment for your readers in an aesthetics sense.
