Baidu, the world’s second largest search engine (in terms of popularity and usage) next to Google presents another potential source of huge traffic for your blog. Statistics shows that China has already surpassed the U.S. in internet use. By June 2007, China has about 162 million internet users and the number is growing rapidly everyday.
Baidu And English Blogs
I’m sure the first question in your mind is whether Baidu indexes English blogs and websites? Baidu is a Chinese search engines so probably you’re thinking that it only shows blogs and websites using Chinese characters. Well, you’re wrong! Baidu shows blogs and websites written in English in its search result page. Here’s a proof. (I searched “blogging” using Baidu and surprisingly, the 3rd and the 9th search result leads to a blog written in English)

English Searches In China Is Growing
As China is increasingly becoming a World superpower, the need for them to internationalize is growing. This has resulted in the inclusion of English language in the Chinese curriculum. In fact, China has the highest demand for English teachers from overseas.
According to Google China, the keywords “Blogger” and “Wordpress Theme” have been searched for 270,000,000 and 17,900,000 times respectively. This only proves that China can be a great source of potential traffic for English blogs and websites. You just need to go through the right medium… in this case, through Baidu (the most popular and most widely used search engine all over China).

Hi Kabayan,
Found you at Problogger. I heard about this Baidu before but was hesitant to submit my blog, simply because I cannot understand anything.
But with you being a fellow Filipino living in China, I know I can trust you. So now, I submitted my blog and will wait for your update about this.
Thanks!
