wordpress theme directory

With the success of Wordpress Plugin Directory, Wordpress decided to extend their service and has now officially launched the Wordpress Theme Directory. The Wordpress Theme Directory will be a valuable resource for Wordpress users because all the themes showcased there can be downloaded and used for free. At the same time, the creation of a Wordpress Theme Directory presents a great opportunity for theme designers to showcase their talents and market themselves.

With the launch of the Wordpress Theme Directory, rest assured that all the Wordpress themes available for download are of good quality because certain requirements have to be met before the Wordpress theme gets published in the Wordpress Theme Directory. For those who are planning to submit their own Wordpress theme designs, here are the requirements that must be met.

  1. A single zip file, with all of the files themes file included.
  2. There must be a style.css file containing:
  3. Name (which must be unique to the directory)
  4. Tags
  5. Version (in the format of x.x or x.x.x and must be unique to the theme)
  6. Align classes: .alignright, .alignleft, .aligncenter (see http://codex.wordpress.org/CSS for more details)
  7. The screenshot file name must be screenshot.png, and be a real screenshot of the theme, not a splash screen.
  8. Licensing must be GPL compatible.
  9. No hidden, paid or sponsored links in the theme. Links back to the author’s site are fine.
  10. The theme must be your own original work.
  11. Adult/mature themes are not allowed.

If you think your Wordpress theme met all the aforesaid requirements, you can now submit it for possible inclusion. Thank you for your time and good luck! :)
